This past Saturday Jeremy and I woke up at 4 a.m., loaded the car with plenty of pug hats and other All You Need is Pug goodies, and made the drive to Killington, VT for the Green Mountain Pug Rescue 2015 Pug Social. It was a foggy, chilly morning and I spent the nearly 3 hour long ride thinking about our displays and hoping that everything would go off without a hitch. I always get a bit nervous before events, but the butterflies leave my stomach as soon as I settle in and begin to meet all of the lovely people who come out to share these fun events with us.
As we set up, I was glad to see the sun shining. Last year’s frigid, wet weather made it hard for the pugs to enjoy the day, and made all of the humans run to The Pug Cafe for hot chocolate and coffee! This year, the day was beautiful and bright, as were the smiles on the faces of every person and pet who arrived at the event.
Our hat display board worked out beautifully for showcasing all of our unique designs to event-goers & our hand-designed shopper bags proved a favorite among customers who delighted in the whimsy of these reusable gift bags. All of those paper cuts and glue gun burns were not suffered in vain! It made me so happy to see how much customers really appreciated the small, extra details that were added to make the experience of shopping with us a memorable one.
One of the best parts of these events is that many families return to the social year after year, and we get to see some of our favorite returning customers! Beans is a particularly remarkable pug. Her beautiful black coat shines and her personality is just so sweet, not to mention the fact that her humans are incredibly kind and fun to talk to! We met Beans last year when she stopped by our tent and tried on several of our hats. This year she came back for more, and we hope to see her at our booth again next year!
Another awesome part about pug events is seeing that other dog lovers are just as obsessed with their pets as we are with ours! Last year this little pug came by our tent and became the proud owner of one of our Elephant Hats. When the family stopped by our tent on Saturday they showed us this awesome t-shirt that they had made of their pug wearing our hat! How cool is that?
Two more returning customers that we adore are Mabel and Leo. Mabel is a beautiful little pug full of energy and Leo is a white pug puppy with a beautiful coat and charming smile. Last year, Leo left the pug social with a Monster Hat and Red Baron Hat Set, both of which he was photographed in and his family kindly sent us photos of. Leo is a wonderful model and sweet dog. We loved having the chance to see him and Mabel again!
The pug social would not be complete without the pen of adoptable pugs! Even though I have a full house and currently don’t have the option to adopt another family member, I always stop by to meet the adoptable dogs and give them a kiss for good luck in their adoption processes. Every pug in the pen this year had a unique personality and sweet spirit, and I hope that they will find their forever homes soon!
All in all, Jeremy and I enjoyed ourselves. We had a blast chatting with pug lovers, bidding on pug goodies in the silent auction tent, and playing with the furry friends who ran into our tent and played in the shade. We can’t wait for the Pug Rescue of New England’s social on October 11 and we will look forward to seeing our friends at the GMPR social next fall!
